| His Way Ministry
- His Way Ministry is a post-prison ministry. The mission is
to respond effectively to the needs of ex-offenders, to help
prevent crime, and to reduce recidivism. The core of the His
Way Ministry consists of Christian men and women, called by
God to offer solutions to the problems facing ex-offenders.
Statistics indicate that over 60% of the inmates released or
placed on probation or parole eventually are re-arrested for
another offense within three years. Many repeat offenders
simply knew nothing else other than to revert back to their
old lifestyles or survival techniques. In some cases,
ex-offenders, unable to adjust to life on the outside,
commit more crimes merely to return to prison.
The His Way
Ministry addresses the spiritual, physical, and mental needs
of ex-offenders. The difficulty facing many ex-offenders is
well documented. Many have trouble finding jobs, housing,
and basic survival resources. Many have problems compounding
the adjustment challenge: substance abuse, illiteracy, lack
of social & employment skills, etc. |

| Shelter Team
- Every evening, some 40-100 homeless men gather at the
Crisis Ministry Shelter located in Charleston. Volunteers
from various churches staff the shelter kitchen each evening
on a rotating schedule. Blessed Sacrament assumes
responsibility for this very special ministry by serving
supper on the first Friday of January, March, May, July,
September and November. Volunteers arrive at the shelter at
6:30 PM and begin serving at approximately 8:00 PM. There is
no age requirement, but volunteers must have a willing heart
and a kind smile. |

| St. Vincent De Paul
Society - The
Society of St. Vincent De Paul is an international Catholic
organization of lay persons who seek to help those who are
suffering through a person-to-person contact. The society
has two aims: "To do a great deal of spiritual and temporal
good to a few poor families in the name of Jesus Christ."
(Manual, St. Vincent dePaul Society)
Members strive to achieve
the Society's aims by visiting, in pairs, the needy within
the parish area and providing such aid as food, shelter,
financial assistance with utility bills or other needs often
neglected by other organizations. Services are rendered
regardless of creed, opinion, color, origin or caste. Monetary donations can be placed in the
containers labeled "St. Vincent DePaul" located in the
vestibule of the church.
Meetings are held on the
second and fourth Mondays of each month 7:00 to 8:00 PM and
are publicized in the parish bulletin. |
