The BELLS OF BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH are an important part of the life of our Church, our School and our Community. The ringing of the bells provides a reminder of the presence of God and that time is sacred. The regular and consistent ringing of the bells, the clock chimes, hour strikes, the Angelus, the call-to and dismissal-from Mass ... and other bell rings throughout the day can provide a wonderful, comforting delight for the children, teachers and staff of Blessed Sacrament Church; and the local community. The regular ringing of the bells will become a treasured part of their time and memories of Blessed Sacrament.
As part of our ongoing effort to perform needed maintenance of our facilities, we conducted a thorough inspection of our church bells which were originally installed 45 years ago (1963).
The result of the inspection pointed out a number of positive finding: a) all four (4) bells are thick, heavy and well-cast; b) the bell tower is massively constructed and the concrete materials would allow the bell sounds to reverberate and project very well; and c) all four bells swing and could provide a joyous sound.
However, the inspection also pointed out a number of serious deficiencies: a) at present, three of the four bells do not operate and the fourth bell operates erratically; b) only one of the bells has a bell-striker severely limiting their versatility; and c) the mechanical structures, electrical system, controls and motor have not received adequate maintenance attention over the years.
In short, The BELLS OF BLESSED SACRAMENT are badly in need of cleaning, refurbishing and modernization to RESTORE AND ENHANCE THEIR VOICE. Based on the findings of the inspection, our parish Building Committee determined that $40,000 would be required to complete the project.
